Commute Cost Calculator

Estimate weekly, monthly, and annual cost of driving to work: fuel, parking, tolls, optional transit comparison, and time value.

In short

Tell us how far you commute one way, how many days per week and weeks per year you drive, your MPG and gas price, plus daily parking and tolls. We compute fuel cost from round-trip miles, optionally add a monthly transit pass and a dollar value for commute time, and show weekly, monthly, and annual totals.

Enter your commute distance, schedule, fuel economy, and local gas price. Add parking and tolls per workday. Optionally include a monthly transit pass and your time value with one-way commute time to see a rough dollar value of time spent commuting.

Hidden commute costs

Gas and tolls are obvious, but parking, wear on your vehicle, insurance differences by mileage, and the value of your time add up. This calculator focuses on out-of-pocket fuel, parking, and tolls so you can baseline your drive; time value is optional and uses your own hourly figure.

How to estimate annual commuting expenses

Use “weeks per year” for weeks you usually commute (many people use 48–50 after holidays and PTO). Parking and tolls should be per workday you drive. Public transit is entered as a monthly figure so you can compare total annual driving cost to a pass or typical monthly fare.

FAQ

How do you calculate gas cost?
We multiply your round-trip miles per workday by commute days and weeks to get yearly miles, divide by MPG, and multiply by your gas price per gallon.
What is the time cost estimate?
If you enter an hourly time value and one-way commute minutes, we estimate annual hours spent commuting (both directions) and multiply by that rate. It is not tax or payroll advice—just a way to think about tradeoffs.
Does this include insurance or depreciation?
No. Those vary widely. This tool isolates fuel, parking, tolls, and optional time and transit figures so you can reason about the main variable costs of the trip.
